Activist or Entrepreneur for Sustainability – an Unneccesary Division?

Posted on by September 24, 2009 by anders.abrahamsson

The ”old school” of ”changing the world” thinking implied that there was a distinction in between the volunteering activist in the not-for-profit association or NGO, whereas those starting up companies only did it for their own (money) interest.

This distinction is on its way to be blurred, and the boundary in between the activist and the entrepreneur is on its way disappearing by widening the entrepreneurship concept – social, societal, environmental and sustainability entrepreneurs increases in number and teams starting up businesses to change the world becomes more common.

In fact, entrepreneurship is the road to take if you want to move beyond election periods and quarterly reports of short-sightedness and myopia dominating in the political and big business sector. An entrepreneur sets a vision of at least a decade away, and dives into the everydayness action to make small steps of realizing this vision one action a time. Yes, action, activity – an entrepreneur is an ”activist”.

The world does not need to be taken for granted, as it is. We have the option and opportunity to (co-)create our (common) future. Ideas for Change represents that kind of activism – and here you see alot of expressions of human drive for lasting change – entrepreneurs for sustainability.

The 21st Century Activist – serving himself, the planet and the people.

What’s your dream?
