The Copenhagen summit to stop the climate crisis is at risk of failing. TckTckTck and our partners have determined that only massive public pressure can save it.

Over the year, we’ve been working with over 250 global NGO’s. Over 12 million people have already come together in nearly every country on earth to show their support for a climate deal, now. Please sign our giant petition. If you’ve already signed, now is the time to forward it to all your friends. We need to get to 15 million supporters by the weekend to make leaders listen.

Today, the world’s leaders have arrived for an unprecedented 60 hours of direct negotiations. Experts agree that without a tidal wave of public pressure for a deal, the summit will not stop catastrophic global warming of 2 degrees.

Powerless or powerfull

In these times, the days before COP15, when the Nobel prize is handed out, when the Right Livelihood Award is given to people that have done something good or right, when everybody looks at TV for salvation. When we have become confortable, I stand and wonder if the methods we use today still work in these times. Does manifestations or other methods still apply for the 21:st century? Is media still the way to go through when we need publicity? Does politicians have real power anymore? Should we unite and create a massforce that no one can ignore? Should we do as we always have done?

Or should we be individualists and do whatever we can in our own backyard? Maybe it´s enough to quietly protest by choosing other paths then the easy ones?

But I can tell you something, the world will not change itself. But the world hasn´t either been destroyed by the common man, but by companies and organizations trying to make a quick buck because we thought that we need cheap and massive ammounts of stuff. And they obliged, found cheap stuff for us. And we believed that cheap is better. We built a culture that chases the best deals. But somebody, somewhere always pays the difference. What you gain on a bargain is paid somehow else, by poor people slaving for you, by nature or other.

Do you think that we would have chosen the cheap but bad way instead of the expensive good way? I can tell you that even the poorest of us would do good first. I am sure of that.

So instead of butting our heads together and acomplish almost nothing, or little in a very long time, we should go to the source, to the power, to the money. We should go to the companies and ask them, make them, convince them to be part of this movement. Companies are made by people. People are made the same as you, think the same as you and act the same as you. There for it´s given how you can change.

Just put yourself in their shoes and make a good argument!

This might be the last chance for us tho show the policy makers that we want a real deal in Copenhagen.

On Saturday, December 5th, the global climate campaign TckTckTck together with other organizations will arrange manifestations all over the world.

In Sweden, we call for a BRA meeting (=Bindande/legally binding, Rättvist/fair, Ambitiöst/ambitious.)

Manifestations will be held at Götaplatsen i Gothenburg, Mimerskolan in Umeå, Mynttorget i Stockholm and many other places. Take a look at the schedule and join us!

24 October: 5 200 events to save our planet

On 24 October, people in 181 countries came together for the most widespread day of environmental action in the planet’s history. At over 5200 events around the world, people gathered to call for strong action and bold leadership on the climate crisis.

The picture below was shot at Sergels Torg, Stockholm. About 300 activists gathered to raise awareness of the number 350 ppm, which scientists say is the safe limit of CO2 in the atmospere.

At 350.org you will find reports from events all over the world.

We´re very happy to present Kumi Naidoo as one of the speakers at Kulturhuset/Ekoteket on Saturday.

The South African social justice campaigner Kumi Naidoo is a board member of the board of GCCA (Global Campaign for Climate Action) which is one of the organizations behind the International Day of Climate Action.

He will come to Ekoteket in the afternoon and speak around 16.50.

For 20 years the world has managed to do very little about the greatest problem it’s ever faced. In three days time, you can help change that–and if you step up you’re going to have a lot of company!

It looks like the International Day of Climate Action this Saturday October 24th will be the single most widespread day of political action the planet has ever seen–we’re closing in on 170 nations, and more than 4000 rallies and events.

There will be climate events from the bottom of the Great Barrier Reef to the summit of Mount Everest. At each event — at rallies and parties and deep-sea dives — people will take a big photo that somehow depicts the number 350. Our crew at 350.org will be taking these thousands of photos, projecting them on the giant screens in New York’s Times Square, and delivering them directly to hundreds of world leaders and politicians in the coming weeks.

People in all those cities and towns all around the world will be saying the same thing: science tells us that we can’t have more than 350 parts per million CO2 in the atmosphere if we want a planet like the one we were born onto. The global day of action will be a day full of activities in and around Kulturhuset in the city center of Stockholm. Seminars, workshops and cultural events will take place in Ekoteket between 11AM and 5PM

Outside of Kulturhuset, on Sergels torg and other places, there will big visualizations of the number 350, involving climate activists, other interested and just people strolling by.

The Time Has Come!

tck tck tck… The time has come!

The 24th of October is not only the International Day of Climate Action, it is also the last day of the European Development Days in Stockholm. We will combine the two and perform our 350.org-action outside the Stockholm International Fairs. The action will take place in the morning, before the first seminar during the time that participants will be arriving.

We will be lined up beside the walkway connecting the train station and the fair. We will be using ticking egg-timers/timers/alarm-clocks/devices to bring attention to us and the fact that: THE TIME HAS COME! We will also visually present 350.org with banners and flyers.

Please make sure to bring your own ticking device (if you dont have one perhaps you can borrow from a friend, or find a nice one in a second hand shop? And if you have more than one bring all of them).

No More Lullabies – 350 minutes of music and film

October 24th 2009 at Södra Teatern, Stockholm.

Twenty-five Swedish artists will go onstage one after another for a total of 350 minutes. The aim is to draw attention to the International Day of Climate Action. The appearances will take turns with minute-long short films with climate change and the individual as a common theme.

The artists who have chosen to participate will appear at Södra Teatern as individuals – not activists – with a mutual wish that we all have to take the climate issue seriously.

Climate change, in one way or another will affect all of us. Yet we don’t speak openly about our feelings concerning out uncertain future. We all tend to handle the situation in different ways. Fighting spirit, angst, ignorance and denial are just a few of the states that we’re in.

No More Lullabies wants to open up for a more straightforward dialogue, man to man. Conversations about climate issues that goes beyond political rhetoric, defence mechanisms and vested interest. In the long run, this dialogue could make the global climate crisis become a subject that we choose to talk about more often in our daily lives and thereby inspires us to take action.

Ane Brun is the initiator of the event. Tällberg Foundation is co-arranger (www.tallbergfoundation.org). The evening will also be the starting point of the long-term project No More Lullabies.

The world stands once again still in awe before one of these crucial moments. The choice of Barack Obama as the winner of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize marks even more the worlds desperate need of real progress. We see that this is done as a statement of the path that the world need to take. We are building this project ideasforchange.tv just because the world needs to meet, to put their heads together and build forces that change our future.
