Bor: Sedan maj 2010 i Peking

Underlaget var aldrig menat for allmänheten.

Reflections about the outcome of the presidential election in Iran 2009

Barack Obama’s victory after the presidential election 2008 came to symbolize change and the word “change” echoed all around the world like a soft whisper.

“Yes we can”. The citizens of the United States had enough and needed change, all they had to do was to register their votes and go to the election halls. The citizens of Iran also wanted change. On the 12th of June 2009, they went to the election halls to vote. Maybe the beautiful words “yes we can” echoed in their minds and hearts, “are ma mitonim” in Persian. But no, in the Iranian case, it was not enough to go to the election halls. The regime had something else on their agenda, and it certainly was not “change”. The People of Iran were once again cheated by the Iranian regime, this time it seemed to be election fraud. 30 years silence turned into rage and shout which echoed on the streets of Tehran and all around the world in just one night. We also can, the Iranian people thought. We had enough. Maybe the trees whispered to the citizens of Iran “courage, yes you can too”. Because courage is not to be taken for granted in a theocracy. Courage is a virtue in Iran. Still, the people found courage, and day by day they became more courageous. At the same time the desperation and frustration grew. Shortly other Iranians became hopeful. Within 24 hours, all our friends had changed their Facebook status to positive words about change in Iran. Yet, I could not help to feel powerless.

Suddenly a power struggle began between my brain and heart. My heart screamed “hope hope hope” whereas my mind tried to shout “impossible” and “no we cannot.

When the manifestations against the outcome of the election in Iran continued, my heart won and we all continued hoping. We demand human rights in Iran.

Banafshe Zabeti

Freelance journalist

The following days the violence against the protestors escalated. A young girl called Neda was shot on an Open Street in Tehran, even though she was not even an active protestor. This young girl gave fire to the demonstrators and the people who hoped and are still hoping for an Iran without murder or terror. At the same time the face of this unknown girl transformed into the soul and face of the struggle. She went from being Neda, a young girl, to Neda, the victim of the regime’s unrestricted violence, just like Ernesto Guevara, the doctor who became Che Guevara the revolutionary after his death. Even though similar violence acts was produced in Iran, the people kept fighting and showing their disappointment and rage in Iran and abroad. The number of people showing support and solidarity for the Iranian grew day by day. When Obama and some western countries choose to stay neutral to the outcome of the Iranian election, they gave power to the common human being who fought for freedom. In the end, everyone was hoping and is still hoping for a change of the Iranian system, something that the mullahs reject and do not allow. Now that the demonstrations are decreasing, we shall all hope, hope that despite the ugly presidential election of Iran, we all took one step forward, even if the step is still small.

Iran is still bleeding

I cannot believe that it was soon 1 year since the outcome of the presidental election in Iran. We all remember the sudden chaos that gave so many people the courage to cautiously hope for change. As the violence of the regime increased and the whole world reacted and sympathized with the Iranians, the people cautiously shouted “AZADI”, “FREEDOOM”.

Eleven months later Iran is still bleeding. But I want to celebrate the courage Iranians are showing and I feel obligated to share these ideas to the digitalized world. Words, pictures, illustrations and ideas for change can yet not stop the bleeding, but highlights the violence of the Iranian regime, and makes hope grow.

The best weapon against a totalitarian regime is to never shut up. So please, keep making your voices heard. Keep spreading the symbols for AZADI.

Here are the conversation between me and Iman Nabavi, whom I have never met but had to ask if I could use his illustration on Ideas For Change. Here is the conversation:

My email to Iman Navabi:

Dear Iman,

My name is Banafshe Viola Zabeti and I found your picture via facebook. I have created the category FREE IRAN on www.ideasforchange.tv and I want to use your picture/illustration and I wonder if it is okay?

Please let me know as soon as you can.

I will not display your name unless you want to

KEEP THE FIGHT FOR AZADI

Banafshe

The reply from Iman Nabavi:

Dear Banafshe,

Thank you for your email and I apologies for late reply.

regarding your request, using my design, You are most welcome to use it, free of charge, to inform, to arouse, to reflect, to state our dangers and our opportunities, to indicate our crises and our choices, to lead, mold and educate.
I created that design to remind this country of what it has forgotten. my hope was to remind the world that fairness, justice, and freedom are more than words, they are perspectives and my single greatest regret is that our compatriots had to die for our dream to live. If we don’t fight now, everything they stood for, will die with them.
I am confident that our goal is one and the same: the pursuit of Truth and with standing for humanity and justice and fairness, man will be what he was born to be: free and independent.
Thank You & God Speed
Your Compatriot, Iman Nabavi

(this article is written in Swedish)

Short summary:
The aim of this article is to engage the contributors of Ideas For Change with question is about children and the future of children. The reason why I created a category with emphasis on “tomorrow”, is beacause I believe in a better tomorrow for our children. However, it is time to engage and react together to create a better future for children all over the world. Let us also try to fight against the prejudice that western children are free.

Barn far illa i hela världen.

Global Warming – Africa

Climate situation is critical in Africa where it clearly appears that the arid areas of Africa are becoming even drier and coastal water level is increased and therefore creates a heightened risk of flooding, which altogether cause problems for agriculture and population. If this problem continues to get worse not only the average life span but also the fight against poverty whitch is said to have halved during the year 2015th. For years the world has tried to help Africa with the economy in an attempt to create a kind of global equality, and where today there is lot of aid organizations such as UNICEF and a lot of others, and then we will have other problems which create an extremely difficult situation for both organizations and Africa.

One might think that despite all the problems of diseases and viruses that Africa has been affected by can be enough, Africa is, after all, a country which is largely innocent of global warming. It is said today that Africa is the continent that suffers most from global warming, it is because Africa has the poorest countries in the world which makes it difficult for countries to work against global catastrophes, unlike Europe, which in all cases, good economy and opportunities to support their country at almost 100%, not only that but also adapt to problems that arise. If we for example were to pretend that there would be a giant wave of water in Europe we could take shelter in our homes because we have a good enought economy to use sustainable materials for buildings, on the other hand, if you would look at Africa’s most building structures you would see that they would not keep so well and therefore creating a higher amount of death counts during a natural disaster. And this is just one of the cases where economy might kick in.

What can the world do about this? Well the question has always been a major problem and say there’s not much Africa can do about it, because they neither cause the global warming effect nor have the economy enough to help other countries in order to reduce the problem, so it is up to other countries trying to help create a good environment for the whole world, which will not only help them but also life span for everything and everyone in the world and a much safer environment. Another problem to be solved is the distribution of the economy so that not only money sent to Africa and disappears on unnecessary things. These measures would then be an attempt to increase democracy in Africa, people also have a large application, and it is after all the people affected. Increased democracy will lead to better economics of distribution, city and state even more global cooperation, which hopefully will create a better environment.

As indicated in our class discussion following the development of Social Disorganization Theory at the University of Chicago during the early Twentieth century, questions concerning the accuracy of a broad, integrated and consensual value and normative system emerged. Rather than conceptualizing deviance as a problem of the stress and strain related to a weakening of social control, the idea, rooted in a Marxist image of social inequality and competition, of the social system being constituted by diverse cultural groups with conflicting interests, values, and norms emerged. Within the Conflict perspective, deviance is conceptualized not as abnormal behavior brought on by faulty socialization or normative ambiguity, but as a normal, political process brought about by inter-group struggle for dominance.

How many times have you heard people say that the French are rude, the English are cold, and Asians are passive? And what about the term “the ugly American?” It is unfortunate that cultural differences are usually viewed through the lens of such stereotyping. It is doubly unfortunate when such stereotyping is carried over in situations of conflict.

Let me share with you a model that was presented by the Institute of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University. The first paradigm deals with rational choice where we look at the parties’ interests and positions. The second is the cultural paradigm where we address the values and worldviews of the parties and finally, there is the biogenetic paradigm which addresses the basic need for existence – the need for security, love, food (modeled after the Maslow hierarchy of needs). Our presentation focuses on the cultural paradigm and even though it is not necessarily in isolation from the others, we continue to witness more and more attention given to this topic.
First let me use the working definitions of conflict and culture. For the purpose of this presentation I will use the definition of conflict, as defined by Neil Katz, “…as a strong emotion resulting from a perceived difference in needs or values.” For example, a Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and his international transcendental meditation movement are fighting a bitter battle with their neighbors in a European village over the St. Ludwig monastery, which is considered a historical national monument for the villagers. The battle arose because the guru plans to demolish the historic Franciscan monastery partly because it doesn’t face due east. According to the Maharishi’s architectural theories, building entrances should face east so they can gather their energy from the rising sun. The monastery is 29 degrees off. Bad architecture, according to one of the group’s many glossy pamphlets, promotes anxiety, bad luck and even criminal tendencies.
